The two-day MSPC meeting of JA ImpleMENTAL began in Copenhagen, Denmark in the WHO European Region Office

Changes are achieved through the synergy of the profession and the political community

On the first day, of the JA ImpleMENTAL Member State Policy Committee meeting, the successful cooperation of policymakers, country coordinators, and members of the JA Implement team was presented, with examples of good practice and a multitude of shared ideas and experiences.

The opening speeches were delivered by Vasileia Konte, JA Implementation Coordinator and NPHO Greece representative, Ledia Lazeri, regional advisor MHF. and Stefan Graenen from DG SANTE.

Overview of JA ImpleMENTAL progress

  • An ImpleMENTAL Network includes 39 organizations from 21 countries, and more than 180 persons work together sharing knowledge and experience for improving mental health. 
  • 25 pilots are currently taking place across 20 countries in the framework of the JA,
  • 163 activities under 5 strategic areas for the transfer and Pilot Implementation of Belgian Best Practice
  • Developing new (non-existing) OR transforming/adapting existing MH services such as
  • 145 activities under 6 strategic areas for the transfer and Pilot Implementation of the Austrian Best Practice in Suicide Prevention
  • 14 new updated suicide prevention strategies
  • Nore than 70 activities for Support and treatment- services

Reflecting on necessary steps to turn a draft strategy into a strategy and initiate further steps for sustainable implementation with fruitful discussions on how important is the official approval, how biding is a strategy and for whom, sources of funding, and coordination of the implementation

The next session introduced the JA ImpleMENTAL guide on the organization of policy dialogue sessions for sustainability

The day ended with showcasing examples of countries’ implementation progress

The speakers presented the results of their efforts in the implementation of suicide prevention programs in Iceland and Estonia, and the implementation of mental health system reform of services in the community in Spain and Malta.

The countries presented their accomplishments via team presentations led by the country coordinator and a member of the policy committee. The presentations aimed to highlight the political commitment within the countries to adopt good practices. The collective agreement ensures long-term sustainability.

The meeting underscored the importance of strong political determination within each country for effective implementation, alongside the profession’s and the entire population’s dedication to embracing reforms to achieve the best European standards. Countries were engaged in discussions on actions to embed the results of their pilots in national strategies and how to sustain activities and Network expertise.
